****** ATTENTION RESIDENTS ******
Residents are being urged by the police to be aware of potential diversion burglaries that are occurring in the township and surrounding communities.
The Springfield Township Police Department is currently investigating two incidents that have occurred in the past two weeks. Individuals are approaching the residents and identifying themselves as gas, electric, utility, and tree company employees doing work in the area. Once contact is made one of the individuals either leads the victim outside of the home or distracts the victim inside the home while a second individual burglarizes the home. Similar incidents have occurred in surrounding communities.
The Police Department is asking residents to be vigilant and pay extra attention to anyone who approaches their home claiming to be from a gas, electric, utility and tree company. We are encouraging residents to find out why they are there and asked for proper identification from them, especially if they did not call for any services.
If any part of their story sounds questionable do not let them in or accompany them outside, gather as many details about the individual and the vehicle as possible and notify police immediately.
